Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act

(YouTube link)

The TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live! did a segment illustrating what you've read elsewhere: that Americans don't like Obamacare, but they do like the Affordable Care Act. Which are exactly the same thing, only the names are changed. Keep in mind that these "man on the street" interviews are always highly edited, and if you were asked the same question and gave the correct answer, you wouldn't be included in the final cut. Some Americans know what's going on. -via Viral Viral Videos

The new health exchanges through which uninsured people can buy group health insurance are online today as part of the Affordable Care Act. However, since it is the first day, and a government shutdown is in effect, tech support is finding it difficult to keep up with glitches. If there is any tech support.

For more information on the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, see an FAQ posted at the Washington Post.

Well, it'd be nice if we could at least agree that our Congress shouldn't "... have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of controversy."

No matter what one's beliefs, I think that kind of thinking doesn't usually end up serving us well in the long run. :) YMMV

The administration hasn't been very forthcoming with figures and in fact have embargoed information. Best estimates seem to be that (on average) an increase for most segments of our population:
Double Down: Obamacare Will Increase Avg. Individual-Market Insurance Premiums By 99% For Men, 62% For Women

Not to mention that many employers are slashing hours for full time workers to avoid the Obamacare insurance mandate

What? We are paying for those things now, plus profits that go to insurance company and provider stockholders, lobbyists, CEOs, and their interior decorators. And emergency room care for uninsured people. A universal plan would not require salesmen, or bonuses for adjusters who deny claims, or advertising, or the extra staff all medical offices hire now to sort through the insurance problems.

Now if they would have asked about it's true name, the Unaffordable Care Act, then everyone would have answered correctly!

Or as put by a better man than I: It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it. - Thomas Sowell
