37 Odd College Mascots - Neatorama

In the latest mental_floss video, John Green introduces us to college sports mascots that will make you laugh, or at least scratch your head. Often, the publicity potential and t-shirt sales both trump the intimidation factor.

Rensselaer Polytechnic has Puckman (a hockey puck wearing an engineers hat, mostly for the hockey team). The school tried to change the official mascot, Engineer, to the Red Hawk which the students hated; the mascot was changed back. I seem to recall the women's basketball team had a red bee.

At NYU, after years of the Violet as a nickname, someone dressed up as a Violet. The school then adopted the Bobcat

I never understand why these things leave out my college mascot, the McDaniel Green Terror.
