One of the most popular Neatorama posts ever was 30 Strangest Animal Mating Habits in 2007. We've told you about quite a few more since then. Now mental_floss video has Johnn Green quickly explaining some very strange ways Mother Nature gets different animals to reproduce. It all probably makes perfect sense if you're one of these animals. At least we hope so.

I was at the Oregon Zoo last year with my parents (they were visiting from out of town). And we stopped to check out the porcupine exhibit. Dad wondered how they mate and not two second later the porcupines proceed to demonstrate. A boy about 4 years old asked what they were doing and his big sister said they were playing and very quickly whisked him away. Needless to say, we got a big chuckle out it.

I happened by polar bears mating at the National Zoo years ago. Walked by much later and they were still mating. That got me to looking up about the species habits. Seems that it takes 3-4 hours to consummate the act. I'd have made a lousy polar bear.
