Bobby Petersen, Tom Gottelier and Edward Thomas designed the Pulp Paper Helmet. It's made of recycled newspapers. Their helmet is meant for short term use and will survive only 6 hours in the rain. But once it starts to break down, you can just recycle it again.

The plastic shell on a regular helmet is the protective part. Is there a shell inside the cardboard one? It just seems dangerous to wear a cardboard bunt pan on your head and expect it to protect you.

If properly designed, I don't see why not. After all, a regular helmet is just some Styrofoam in a plastic shell. And this could be made for pennies.

I've worn helmets for 40 years on bike rides and only "used" a helmet once. It saved my life. I would NOT trust my life to a paper helmet
