An incident of gasoline theft in Mt. Warren Park, Queensland, Australia, was caught on tape. The woman passenger was pumping gas when an attendant approached, and the driver chose that moment to drive off, jerking the hose from the pump and throwing the woman into the air. She managed to catch the car, and both suspects are on the loose.
Caltex service station owner Shane Jacobson said last week's incident was the first time he had seen a hose ripped from the bowser in a drive off.
He said people were stealing up to $90 in fuel each time, money he could never re-coup.
"It does cost us a hell of a lot of money."
Mr Jacobson said he believed a pre-paid policy, forcing drivers to pay before filling up, may not be far off.
A pre-paid system might be safer all around. Link (with video) -via Arbroath
I was at a NJ gas station and just as the attendant was finishing up pumping someone's gas the car slammed on the accelerator and drove off with the nozzle still in the tank...... the hose stretched and just before it broke the nozzle slipped out of the tank and flew back hitting the attendant square in the junk with bone crushing force. I have never seen a grown man cry so hard in my life.
Both the attendant and I had tears streaming down our faces...... mine were from laughter.
