Russian Victory?

In Russia, Victory Day is May 9, a day to commemorate the surrender of Nazi Germany in World War II. Look closely at this billboard promoting the holiday. It has a Soviet flag, but the soldiers are taken from Joe Rosenthal's photograph "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima," which shows the U.S. victory over the Japanese in the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima. Yes, it's been flipped horizontally, so maybe no one will notice. See more at English Russia. Link  -via Buzzfeed

All the more ironic since kids in Eastern Europe are taught in school that they won the war. The Red Army won it. Period. No mention made of any help they might have had.
Pathetic.

Kids in Eastern Europe won nothing - their grandfathers did. Their grandfathers lost rather than won, as the regime they fought for was as repressive as the Nazis'. But please, sir/ma'am, come to Russia and rewrite their course plans to make them more Americentric, after all, teaching about the greatest bloodshed of the twentieth century, with its unsolvable issues and premises, must jump out of its way to mention a bunch of radios you guys have sent overseas. Battles with deathtolls greater than that of the whole Western front should be nudged to the side to leave space for the all-important American assistance.
Meanwhile American kids are taught perfectly and impartially, aren't they? Last one I talked to thought Moscow was somewhere in Canada, so I'd say you should be more concerned about teaching anything -at all- domestically rather than teaching politicised nuances in Russia.
