Airline Begins Charging Passengers Per Kilo Instead of Per Seat

Do you want to fly on Samoa Air? You'll now be charged by your weight instead of the number of seats that you need. Company executive Chris Langton explained:

There is no doubt in my mind that this is the concept of the future. We always weigh the mass that is on an aircraft. And that always has to pay for the transportation, it doesn't matter whether you are carrying freight or people.  Anyone who travels at times has felt they have been paying for half of the passenger next to them. The standard width and pitch of the seat are changing as people are getting a bit bigger wider and taller than they were 40-50 years ago.

Would it help to suck in my gut before the weigh-in?

Makes perfect sense. It takes more fuel to lift something heavy against gravity than something light. This is how air travel should have been organized from the start.

Also, eggs should be sold by weight, not by quantity, since some eggs are bigger than others.

This is a 2 pronged conspiracy by the Samoans. #1 Get Girl Scouts to sell our delicious, fattening cookies (Samoas) #2 weigh cookie eaters as they travel to our beautiful islands. Muahahahaha! Note: yes, I know those Girl Scout cookies aren't in any way connected to Samoa.

Every time I check in I wish they'd allow me more checked luggage to make up for missing pounds on my body! I'm not minuscule but I'm short and weigh a whole lot less than your average passenger. Wonder where all Samoa Air flies. ha
I seriously doubt this is going to happen very soon. I mean- people will be angry!
