Going to Summer Kamp with the KKK

The Ku Klux Klan operated a resort called Kool Koast Kamp near Rockport, Texas in the 1920s. It had all the amenities you'd expect of a camp, fishing, swimming, “watermelon parties,” and educational activities. Meanwhile, you would be protected by "the fiery cross." And there was plenty of shade to protect one's delicate white skin from the sun. See a brochure for the camp at Slate. Link

Is it ironic that the guide recommends a "big Mexican sombrero" as "the most sensible and appropriate thing to wear?"

/Was friends in high school with a guy who got shipped off to a Klan summer camp in the 80s. That was how he found out that being in the Klan was a family tradition he was expected to take part in, and his experience was... not pleasant at all.
