When a unusual animal roams the streets of New York, people pay attention. They follow the beast's progress on the news, and discuss it on social networking sites. Often someone will open a Twitter account on behalf of the creature. It's happened so often that Brooklyn design studio MGMT created a set of arty portraits of the most memorable animals and their stories. Pictured is the Bronx Zoo Cobra, which caused a sensation in 2011.
A female Egyptian Cobra escaped from the Bronx Zoo in March 2011. The cobra, an extremely venomnous snake, instantly caught the attention of New Yorkers and became a Twitter sensation, amassing over 200,00 followers over the span of a few days. The Cobra was finally found 6 days later in another part of the Bronx Zoo.
