Drawn to Facts No. 009: Your foot is the same size as the distance between your wrist and elbow

Fact: Your foot is the same size as the distance between your wrist and elbow.

Check out all of our illustrated facts here.

Robert Beverly Hale (relative of 'Man Without a Country' Edward Everett Hale) used head widths: A head width = a collar bone = a shoulder blade = sternum (breastbone). It's one head width from top of head to base of nose to pit of neck to top of sternum to base of sternum to points of ribcage to bumps on pelvis (anterior superior iliac spine). A thigh bone = 3 head widths. A shin is 80% of that. A foot is 80% of that. An upper arm bone = 2 head widths. A forearm is 80% of that. A hand is 80% of that.

Not me. Even measuring from the inside of the elbow (which involved more contortion than I'm used to), my arm bone is at least two inches longer. As short as I am, I've also inherited particularly small feet from my grandmother. Which means none of my daughters can borrow my shoes anymore!
