Inexperienced bowlers forget their soles are slick, to purposely give them slide on the approach, AND the lane itself is oiled. Also bowlers using house balls are using a ball that doesn't fit their hand, and they are forced to grip the ball harder than they would with a custom ball, then when they roll the ball, they don't always disengage their hand in time to keep the ball from carrying them forward onto the lane.
