I can't blame her for being frightened - and lets not forget she is shielding her child. These are v.large animals, not a domesticated species, and they are very strong. I visited a zoo a few years ago, which included a close up tour of the giraffes. As one of the background stories they told us that one of the giraffes had 'accidentally' picked up and swung a female zookeeper by her ponytail (mistaken for food they think). This was not a small woman.
