Do You See Yourself in the Mirror?

When you see yourself in the mirror every morning, who do you really see?

Photographer Tom Hussey's elderly dad said that he still felt young, like he was in his twenties, and that whenever he looked in the mirror, he didn't recognize the old face that stared back at him.

That inspired Tom to create this photography series titled "Reflections." He said in this piece by Claire O'Neill at NPR's The Picture Show:

"The images evoke a reaction from every person, in pretty much any culture," he says, "because everybody ... has a moment in their life where they think that's how they are. It might be the day you got married, or high school graduation or the time in college."

So, how do you see yourself, Neatoramanauts? Is the man or woman in the mirror a true reflection of how you see yourself?

I'm 37 and I've been chronically ill for eight years now. To appropriate a bumper sticker, when I look in the mirror there's a healthy person inside me wondering what the hell happened.

I surmize everyone has a physical age, an emotional age, and a mental age. What's being described here is what I think of as a person's mental age which at some point stops aging. Personally, I've determined my mental age is 23. That's the point in my life where I was out of school, living on my own, and had for the most part formed the opinions that make up my life. It's when the physical age doesn't meet the expectations of the mental age that sucks!

I saw a biography of the great cartoonist Chuck Jones and he was asked what it felt like to be in his upper 80's. He said how astonished he was that he didn't feel any different than when he was 18. It was just his old, creeky body that kept reminding him he wasn't! Spot on Chuck.

Yeah, it's been really depressing me lately, when I look at pictures of me as a kid, and then look in the mirror and try to find some commonality.
I just don't see the resemblance.
