Breaking Into Jail

The barbed wire fence that surrounds the jail is usually there to keep inmates from escaping, not people breaking in, but that's exactly what happened in Butler Countay Jail in Hamilton, Ohio:
Deputies responded to the rear of the Butler County Jail at about 7:30 a.m. and found Tiffany R. Hurd, 36, trying to climb over the barbed-wire fence.

The catch? The woman wanted to get into the facility, not out of it.

Jail staff advised the woman to leave the premises — to which she responded, “I want to be arrested,” according to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.

The deputies obliged and charged her with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, so the woman's attempt to break into jail resulted in a resounding success! Link - via MSN Now

It's actually kinda sad. When I was working as a security guard many years ago I'd encounter homeless people purposefully trying to get arrested so they'd have shelter and food. Naturally they were too drunk/stoned/whatev for a shelter to take them.

One of Charles Addams' old New Yorker cartoons has a convict sitting in his cell, staring in surprise at a woman emerging from a hole in the floor with a pickaxe. The woman says "I hope you aren't angry Bill, but I just HAD to see you!"
