Melon with Mayo: Yum or Yuck?

Meanwhile in Japan, the hot new trend is ... eating melon with mayonnaise. Really.

You’ve probably never eaten melon with mayonnaise before. Well, we saw it being done by actress Erika Toda on the T.V. drama “SPEC” and thought we would give it a try. But seriously, melon with mayonnaise? Wouldn’t melon taste better as, well, simple melon?

In the drama, the heroine portrayed by Toda slices a melon, squeezes globs of mayonnaise on the fruit and eats the combination delightfully with a spoon. To find out if it really tastes good, one of our reporters tried the same combination, and to our surprise, discovered that the result is unexpectedly tasty! Wow!

So what does Japanese mayo taste like if it is different?

My dad used to make banana mayo sandwiches. I never ate them b/c even as a child I thought it was weird heh.
Oh well.

I think we are being pranked by the Japanese. "Americans are so obsessed with 'crazy Japan' they'll do anything if we hire a cute Tokyo girl to do it!" Good one, Japan.

Mayo in Japan tastes different than here. When I was on a trip to China our guide ordered a fruit salad. It was apples and some other veggies COVERED in mayo!

My favorite thing in this world (honey dew melon) just mated with my most hated thing in this world (mayo). Thank you neatorama, I can officially resign my life now cause I don't wanna live in a world that supports this.

I just had mayo on corn on the cob lately at a Puerto Rican restaurant and it was pretty good. Don't think I'll do melon though. It looks hideous.
