Amazing Cardboard Sculptures By Chris Gilmour

Sculptor Chris Gilmour creates cardboard masterpieces which are really quite amazing to look at, both because of the fine detail work he puts into each piece and the fact that they retain a sort of cardboard look and color despite all the work that has gone into each piece.

I feel that sculptures which are made out of an unmalleable substance like cardboard are quite neat, and represent an ambitious goal for an artist to pursue.

Perhaps it's the fact that cardboard isn't normally thought of as an artistic medium, or perhaps it's because we throw away or recycle it without a second thought, yet most works are thought of as having a degree of inherent permanence due to our tendency to glorify the act of artistic creation.

And the fun part about Chris' works is that he often leaves bits of labels and stickers on his sculptures, which gives them a feeling of mundanity and reminds the viewer where they came from despite the spectacular end result. Just don't expose these beautiful works of art to an exposed flame or they'll burn away like a pile of kindling!
