Steampunk Car Door with Irising Window

This is so much cooler than gull-wing doors. The art collective Five Ton Crane built an art car inspired by the Nautilus from Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. Alan Rorie made the RFID-controlled car door. It opens by waving a fob in front of a sensor. The window in the door with has a cover that irises with the flip of a lever.

Thanks for posing this. I'd like to make an important clarification.

The Nautilus art car was built by Five Ton Crane, a Oakland based arts group that I am member of.

I, as a group member participating in this project, built the doors and windows but there are so many amazing details on this piece, created by the brilliant crew of Five Ton Crane that the internet does not capture.

Steampunk is based on the idea that technology never got past the steam age. No internal combustion, no electronics, etc. So unless it's a steam car how can it be steampunk? And how could RFID ever be steampunk?
