Mid-Car Airbag Inflates to Prevent Passenger-Driver Collisions

GM has developed an airbag that inflates from between the front two seats. It's designed to protect the driver and passenger during side impacts which may drive them into each other, or onto the far side of the car. At the link, you can watch a slow-motion video of one inflating with a crash test dummy.

Great! Like we needed ANOTHER sodium azide bag.(You didn't really believe they were inflated with AIR, did you?) They give us more and more ballistic devices which inflate with a mild poison at temperatures that can burn us, and call them safety devices!

@randi - Yeah. Several years ago, my boss was involved in a terrible accident that he walked away from. His complaint - the airbag sprained his thumb.
