the image was rotated 180 degrees.

seeing this image in the paper was more dramatic since it was at a larger scale. you can probably still get a good idea from the site though.

Very effective method.

Wrong image. It was corrected later on Reddit. The top are gumballs. Perfectly spherical and no Ms printed anywhere.

Hmm. Well, I'm in contact with the photographer. Maybe he'll clarify. In his Flickr notes, he says that they're M&Ms.
