World's Largest Sperm Bank Says No to Gingers

Why wouldn't you want a child who is special and different from the rest? I might not have been a Ginger but they are so freakin adorable. They have the bluest eyes and great skin screw the system.

I have long, natural straight red hair and I was never bullied for it in school. In fact I'm frequently stopped by strangers and told how nice my hair is and how much women would like to have my hair colour. My partner's mother has red hair too, and he has a bit of red in his beard so I suspect there's a very good chance any children I have will be redheads (like the Weasleys). I'm not bothered by ranga and ginger jokes, but it's a little sad to hear that some people wouldn't want to have a redheaded child :(

What's so wrong with being a redhead? I'm not myself but I think it would've been awesome to be a ginger kid myself.
To have the natural hair color SO many women try to achieve w/ dyes would be nice.

i think it needs to be explained better...it has to do with medical issues...research....it isn't the hair color and pale skin its the health issues that comes with it.

My daughter is a natural redhead. I bet she is going to be offended by this!

@myrasam79, besides a higher sensitivity to sunlight, what health risks are associated with redheads, and what evidence do you have to suggest that that is the reason why women don't want redheaded children?

your ignorance isnt shocking to me jessss....u sit at your computer and have so much you could do with it but instead you respond to my comment as if i am attacking you....its not just sunlight...its other things as well...look online and see all the studies and PROOF that has been published. Dont research under ginger...research under red hair color.

Unfortunately this story has been taken out of context and twisted to give it an anti ginger angle. I heard an interview last night with the director of the bank on PRI's "The World" that made no such claims about parents not wanting ginger children. Parents using the bank generally want a donor that "looks like" the father (or like one of the moms in the lesbian case). They don't just pick willy-nilly. The bank is located in Denmark and draws its donors mainly from Scandinavia and Northern Europe where there is a higher than average prevalence of redheads and blonds. They've also stopped taking donations from blue-eyed blond men too, but this isn't getting reported because it doesn't draw any hype or linkbait.

FWIW, I have red hair and was bullied in school. I'm not sure if it was due to my coloring or because I was a shy nerd though.

@myrasam79, chill. I didn't imply you were attacking me at all. I was just asking if you had any evidence to back up your claims as I am not familiar with health risks associated with red hair beyond sensitivity to the Sun. I didn't go on a wild Google chase because I happen to be trying to get an assignment done and I'm a little too busy.

truce jessss.....red heads are equally beautiful...and unique....just keep them out the sun or they cook like bacon in momma's frying pan for a Sunday morning breakfast...mmmmm...i think i might be hungry.
