How Websites Looked Ten Years Ago

Back in 2001, you'd have to mail in money orders to pay for online shopping. Wikipedia had just launched, and research was probably still done by reading books. Things have changed. What do you remember about the internet ten years ago? (I remember playing Neopets...)

Ten years ago I was already buying books from Amazon using my first credit card, I was using Opera as my browser, my primary email address was @usa.net (when it was free), I accessed my Yahoo email account via Pop3 (when it was free), I was already using Google as my default search engine (though I was probably also using Altavista too), I had a Tripod.com website, I was still using a dial up service to go online, I joined dozens of e-groups mailing lists, usenet, irc, and online forums to debate other people, and I was using Napster and Gnutella to download music.

I worked for an Ebay offshoot then . If I remember correctly, right before I started, we took Paypal. Most people called in with credit card numbers during my time.
