Ed Rogers likes to keep the windows of his bedroom open. But he lives next to active railroad tracks, which makes his bedroom very noisy at times. So he assembled a machine that closes the windows automatically when a motion sensor detects a train on the tracks. The windows don't close quickly, but once they are shut, there is a noticeable decrease in noise.

it takes for ever to close the windows... =| how much did he spend for the linear actuators? linear actuators are expensive... =/

Let's hope this is just the prototype.

agreed with tk9, it would also alow for the arduino to do the detection instead of running a computer. Nice fix tho!

It's strange he'd used a motion detector when his primary problem is sound. A sound meter pick up the train at a further distance, and would work for any noises (low flying plane, loud music from neighbours, etc).

It seems like a long time of suffering the sound before anything happens. I just don't thinkit's worth the effort.
