Social scientists at the World Values Survey asked people around the world "Do you think most people would try to take advantage of you if they got a chance, or would they try to be fair?" Something definitely went wrong woth India — either they were only given two options, or maybe they only polled two people there, and they were dead certain. ;)

But the rest of the results could very well still be right. Among the top ranking (people thought they would be treated with fairness) were Norway, Sweden, Finland & The Netherlands (all egalitarian countries), which makes sense.

What Asteier said. India is quite messed up. They answered all 1s or all 10s. Looks like a translation problem, and as a result, it makes me question all the others. They might have had the same problem.

I guess it depends on your definition of "fair". In the US, a deal's a deal, but in other cultures it's common to constantly renegotiate. They don't see it as taking advantage, or being unfair. It's just how things are.
