I'd never even heard of the show, but when I read this I hunted down an episode. Not hard to see why it was cancelled!

Yeah that Outlaw Star thing, I wouldn't say "both series have a child-like engineer". Outlaw Star have a boy that really is a engineer. While Firefly don't have a child, or even a child-like engineer in my eyes. Both are great shows though.

i have never bought the coincidence explanation for why firefly is just like outlaw star

I thought I saw Serenity in the background in that scene in BSG. She flew by in the background and you can see her through the windows of the doctor's office.

I kinda think this story should be titled "18 Things you MAY NOT know about Firefly" because any respectable Browncoat was unsurprised by most of these. I didn't know the actual body count. That's a good nerdstat for my intersect.
