The Nation's Strangest Hot Dogs

I love hot dogs, but usually I go for the standard toppings. For those of you with more adventurous palates though, Serious Eats has a great selection of bizarre but delicious dog toppings from restaurants around the nation. My favorite are the turkey dogs above with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and a side of cranberry sauce. Yum!

I guess I'm something of a hot dog purist, because that just looks wrong. For starters, a hot dog is something you should be able to eat while walking down the street. If you need to put it in a basket and eat it with a knife and fork, then something's wrong. If the "toppings" outweigh the hot dog itself, then something's wrong. The toppings should only be there to enhance the dog itself.

I'm a big fan of Soranan Dogs. Local to Tuscon, but I've never been there.
