California Milk Processor Board along with their ad agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (probably all men) have launched a new "Got Milk?" ad campaign touting the benefits of the white stuff in reducing the symptoms of (gasp!) PMS.
The campaign comes complete with a Flash-heavy microsite called Everything I Do Is Wrong and these print posters:So, ladies, are those great ads for milk or the greatest ever?

Anyways, being a woman myself, I don't actually understand this PMS hysteria. I am sure many women have PMS problems, but surely it's not so bad that men need to cower in fear and offer to become toe-rags?
Honestly, I find these ads stupid. Not offensive, just stupid. But then again, advertisement agencies are known for spurting out copious amounts of crap on a daily basis, so...
Seriously, anyone that gets offended by that needs to take that stick out of their butt.
Just roll your eyes at the unfunny ad and move along.
Eh, the writer of the article basically sounds like they're trying to start a comments argument or create a controversy where none exists. Nothing I hate more than making a big deal out of nothing. God forbid anyone make a mediocre joke about anything.
and also I'm with shono about the pms hysteria. My boyfriend of 3 years can't even tell when I am pms-ing much less cowers in front of me (that's not to say I don't feel the effects though). I'm sure there is the occasional woman that gets hit hard, or who is just generally a b***h that such a situation is a reality but I hardly think it should apply to the female population as a whole.
"Instead of IRRATIONAL, try PASSIONATE."
My whole life, I never understood what people were talking about re:PMS until now all of a sudden at age 46, and it is not pretty - I sprout fangs! That is so abnormal for me, though, that I am able to be aware that my reactions are out of proportion and exercise restraint.
So, I am torn - I see the humor and I initially smiled, but I do find the targeting offensive. Women are not consistently hysterical irrational out-of-control creatures who are here to make men suffer and kowtow on a monthly schedule.
i find it all hilarious.
It's not like one of those 50's ads about spanking your wife for not buying Chase-Sanborn Coffee.

.
hrm... -Now that I think of it, it's funny; my wife is ALWAYS buying the wrong coffee; like deliberately...
sheesh someone is on the rag
Advertising makes men look terrible. I thought fighting sexism was about equality, not swinging the door all the way the other direction? Women are not sacred, they are not special. They are humans, as are men. Since many (I assume female) ad executives enjoy making men look like pathetic cavemen, I think it's only logical to take the high ground and not make dumb PMS jokes.
Men: don't sell your product at the expense of women
Women: don't sell your product at the expense of men
The only commercial that makes me actually feel good about the male gender are Dos Equis commercials. And that is a sad state of affairs. This may shock you, but men have feelings. We like being liked too. I want to feel just as good about myself when I watch TV or read a newspaper as a woman, and adds like this are counterproductive.
BUT AS LONG AS WE SELL MORE MILK AMIRIGHT
Saying "well, ad agencies make men look dumb, so its okay if we do it!" is insane.
The better sentence would be "well, ad agencies make men look dumb, so I won't be a vengeful petty idiot and retaliate by turning the add around to insult the other half"
Bye bye Neatorama...
1) Put up this blatantly sexist BS as if it's hilarious
2) Spam me nonstop with posts advertising all the crap you sell
3) Make TONS of factual errors in posts and, when an error is pointed out NUMEROUS times in comments, still don't fix it 99% of the time.
This website's turned into the blog equivalent of AOL. I'm done.
I loved the reactions. Thanks, guys.
Sometimes, ads are pretty stupid. Think about the people who conceive of them. I wish I could mess up like this at my job, and keep my job.
On a side-note, I dislike a lot of women because they are irrational and over-emotional. They don't think. Being offended is a choice and if someone chooses to be offended by this, that proves irrationality even more.
