It may seem like a simple thing to research, but simply typing in the year of your birth and getting a instant history lesson on pop culture, politics and the news is somehow very entertaining. Type in your year and let us know what were some interesting facts you found out about the year of your birth.

for some reason, this site felt the need to remind me that there were no DVDs in 1958, either.
I mean, the site was intended to be a remembering letter from the past and to get us thinking about the path we've been walking since. I think this is a brilliant idea and I thank Neatorama for posting it. It made me rethink the years that have gone by. 1984 was a heck of a year :D
More significantly there was no internet, but the author of this site seems to have missed that. And that's not the only thing that got missed. The author clearly didn't think that there would be at least as many visitors from outside the US as inside it, and yet most of those facts are US centric.
"In the year 1966, the time when you arrived on this planet, books were still popularly read on paper, not on digital devices. Trees were felled to get the word out."
Er, well yes and in 2011 books are still popularly read on paper. Whoever authored this needs to realise that just because they have an ebook reader that doesn't mean that most of the rest of the world doesn't still read paper books.
3/10 Not a bad idea, but needs a lot more work. Start again with a clean sheet and see what you can do with a little effort.
@Manuel - Trust me, 1984 wasn't that good a year. I lived through it and not a whole lot significant happened.
Would be way more interesting if they would list a few things from your birth year, and then move thru interesting stuff when you were 5, 10,15,20,30.....
Maybe then a few things would "click" and you'd actually remember some of them.
And kill the letter by letter crap - I'd prefer to get the info before I have another birthday.
ZS: Manuel probably thinks '84 was pretty significant.
