Being Granddad by Jocelyn Allen
This pair of photos from London-based photographer Jocelyn Allen is just like looking in a mirror. I suspect there's something slightly different about them, but I just can't seem to put my finger on it ...
This project explores the theme of identity by looking at my closest relatives and myself. Though I moved towns at an early age the same people have been around me over the years.
These photographs give hints into each person's persona with the differences between the 'copying image' and the 'original' revealing further clues into each person's nature.
The word identity has many meanings, but for me it’s about what makes myself me. Though one may copy those who they are genetically connected to and descended from, individuality will still shine through whether it is via hints or physical differences. (2010)
Which is accurate, if you divide a person they are no longer a person. What we consider to be the individual is indivisible. This is a different meaning from independent which implies self-subsistence.
Self-subsistence is the state of independence, the state of not needing anything else to survive. The only true independent is the totality of all existence itself.
Excellent work!
