Women Withhold Sex To Get Road Fixed

If you are like me and have to drive over countless potholes to get to work each morning then you can appreciate the position some women in South America are taking to get road work done. They have decided to withhold sex from their partners until a rough road is fixed by the government. Perhaps this will form of protest will catch on in other countries?
Their ultimate hope is that lack of sex will force their menfolk to lobby the government to work on the rough road that connects the town to the rest of the country. (The government's been promising to repair the road for twenty years.) Because a few days of sexual starvation is a surefire way to prompt political action, right? According to Lucelly Del Carmen Viveros, the human-rights coordinator in Barbacoas:

"These women, and all of the rest of us in this town, are fed up with the empty promises from the central government. This is the only road connecting Barbacoas to the rest of the state and the country, and it's in despicable condition."

That may work for some women, but not all men are that dependent on sexual gratification. Personally, I find tactics like this to be sadistic, control methods, and I would not be turned on by such a woman as that. You want the pothole fixed, do it yourself, you are equal to men, go and do it.

This whole concept is predicated on the assumption that the women don't enjoy or want sex themselves. Rather, that they only use it as a tool to exert their limited female power over men. Isn't not getting laid a punishment for everyone? I agree with Ryan S, go out and fix the potholes yourself ladies...

I'm guessing there's probably a bit more work to be done than filling a few potholes.

So ok, they could start marching in the streets, but what they are doing now is probably A LOT more effective. We'll see how long it takes to get the road fixed, but I bet it's not gonna be another 20 years. ;)

One could argue that withholding sex is a form of disrespect towards men, but not listening to their pleas or making false promises is also disrespectful towards the women.

Not saying one should use this strategy to try to fix relationship problems, but this is not about relationship problems, it's about a bigger issue that involves the whole community they are living in.

What they are doing 1) get's media attention and 2) will probably force the men off their lazy butts to finally do something about it (directly or indirectly) much faster than any other method.

Okay, so they aren't asking the men to fix the pot-holes, but to lobby the government? I see even less reason why women can't do this. But, I guess we are talking "South American", and probably the "Gender-roles" are a bit different, I wouldn't know.

I really don't care that much about sex myself. You see a twinkle in a person's eye when they are craving sex that shares a remarkable similarity to the twinkle in a person's eye when they are craving cocaine. Not surprisingly, biologists are equating 'love' more with 'addiction' when it amounts to the neurochemical cocktail (phenethylamine, dopamine, norepineprhine, estrogen, testosterone, etc...).

One might think of the relationship as a form of consumption or possession, with Self Object as the mode of interaction, whereas, what is called "Agape" (Unconditional Love) is a merging of Self and Object into a singularity. Such that the Self does not perceive the Object as anything but the Self. So there is no condition to love. Like "I will love you if you meet the following criteria:..." Suffice to say that this form of love is extremely rare, pretty much all modern relationships are a commodity exchange. You have to hold your partner to their end of the bargain, you can't trust them to care about you. You have to be sly, crafty and conniving, to find ways to manipulate your spouse.

I doubt the veracity of this story. Men can get sex anywhere.

This is utterly ridiculous. To use sex in this way cheapens and degrades it as well as the relationship behind it. If it destroys a relationship by cheating or whatever else the women only have themselves to blame.

Would this tactic not also inspire their husbands to cheat? And when is the line drawn on this kind of thing? If the withholding sex tactic works in this case, is it going to become the go-to tactic when these women want anything done?

It's kind of sad to think of the outcry or perhaps complete indifference that we'd see if men tried to use this tactic on women.
