Building a Crowd

Someone watched an episode of Master Chef on Hulu and saw twins in this crowd scene. It must have been a thin crowd for the producers to decide it needed a copy-and-paste makeover. What's the world coming to? It's getting to the point where you can't even believe what you see on TV! Link -via Breakfast Links

My question is we're they trying to beef up the crowd or were they trying to cover up some sort of obstacle/hazard to make them look like better planners? All the people who aren't duplicated are around the edges of the space.

It's not just in those circles, but to the left of the picture, as well. This is an old Scientology trick of duplicating pictures of the crowd to make it look like more people attended an event.

It happens a lot more than we realize.

This isn't the worst of it. Some TV shows use shots of other people's crowds. I first spotted it years ago when I thought I'd seen a crowd shot somewhere before. Then coincidentally saw the same crowd shot watching a VHS later in a completely different show.
