The raven actually makes sounds that are easily decipherable. where a parrot usually does not sound human, if I did not see the raven I would assume it is a human speaker.
I was looking for more information about this raven. It appears to maybe be a rehabilitated one. because it is illegal to keep them as pets, unless they have been injured and renamed, and cannot be release back into the wild.
@Frau, it looks like the bird is free, in a few of the other videos it can be seen flying all over. There are plenty of cases where an animal decides that a human is its friend and just decides to stick around. Much like this goose and older gentleman... http://abcnews.go.com/US/video/unlikely-love-goose-befriends-retiree-12922051
Back in the olden days when I was a kid I had a pet raven. It was very smart and extremely beautiful. My dad and brother found him on a golf course sitting on a branch in the rain and brought him home and he became my responsibility to care for him. He was a juvenile (teenage?) raven and still wanted to be fed every 3 hours. He was never caged. He would ride around on my shoulder. Very social bird. He finally grew up and I took him out to the woods and put him in a tree. He would come back once in a while to visit until he finally went his way and I never saw him again.
The camera work was terrible. But the bird is amazing. I am curious though, do female ravens have a female voice. The voice sounded like a male human voice. I love the Edgar Allan Poe reference.
@observer - No. They reproduce whatever voice they hear. So if it were a female voice, then the raven would have attempted to recreate the voice it hears.
Ravens are REALLY intelligent (per a nature program I saw). I thought it was a joke at first, I was really skeptical, but ravens can figure out how to use tools to solve complicated problems. They can solve problems it would otherwise take a chimp or an animal on that level in the animal world (or a human toddler...) to be able to solve! I couldn't believe it.
But creepy is okay in my book! Just might not get a raven anytime soon.
