Step Back In Time. Belfast, 1901.

YouTube link.

This two-minute video, from the Mitchell and Kenyon Collection of the British Film Institute, does not show any historically important or humorous events.  Instead, what one sees is a view from a horse-drawn tramcar on Royal Street in Belfast at the beginning of the last century.

If you find this interesting, there are three companion videos posted at the Ptak Science Books link: Manchester, Bradford, and Wigan, all in 1902

Link.

wow, that was great. just a slice of daily life from 100 years ago. i don't think i've seen a film of that time period where people were unaware that they were being filmed. it's wonderful to see them acting naturally and going about their business. it's amazing that the camera was so steady too.

VERY Neat(oRama).

Cool. I was just reading about the 1905 San Francisco film "A Trip Down Market Street". http://www.archive.org/details/TripDownMarketStreetrBeforeTheFire
I didn't realize there was a whole genre.

I loved the film taken in Wigan. My grandmother lived there as a child before her family emigrated to Canada. That little girl riding on her father's shoulders would have been just her age. It was like a glimpse into what her world would have been like before moving into a cabin on the prairies! Thank you so much for sharing!
