Cat Rescued From Soup Can - Neatorama

A stray 4-month-old kitten in Louisville, Kentucky, helped himself to the remnants of a discarded can of soup and got his head wedged tight inside the can.

The kitten was brought in by MAS animal control officer Raymond Thomas on Monday, and was immediately taken to the veterinary staff, Gulbe said.

An initial attempt was made by veterinary assistant Brenda Keel to remove the can, but the kitten started crying. He was sedated and a pair of bolt-cutters were used to cut the can off of his head.

Gulbe said the kitten was also hypothermic and received medical attention to stabilize his condition.

Staff named the kitten "Campbell."

Campbell, who cleaned up well, is now up for adoption. Link -via Fark

I've seen this before too. I was leaving my apartment one day and found a cat with its head stuck in a tin can. I just pulled it off and the cat ran away. I guess it wasn't very tight, but the cat couldn't get it off itself. Sad what our litter does to creatures in the environment.

My thoughts as well. "There's supposed to be a troll in here complaining about how the person in the article should be helping his fellow man. And when someone inevitably points out that the troll isn't helping ANYBODY, he will go back under his bridge for a while."

Anyway: Glad they saved the kitty. Here's hoping he gets a good home.

Of course the kitten will be adopted. It made the news. No one gave a toss about it before it got it's head stuck in the soup can. It makes the news and people want to adopt the animal.

I love the darkly hilarious names they give to animals rescued from situations like this. Like Stubbs the Legless Kitty or Hawkeye the Blind Doggy.

Same thing happened in our backyard with a refried bean can but the cat was just about dead. I yanked the can off and after a few seconds she shot over the fence like a bullet. Her name is now Rosarita. That was years ago and I still see her occasionally.

Mitch and MadMolecule, this is what an animal shelter does. You're thinking of the people who object to vast sums of money and gargantuan efforts that happen occasionally to save some animals. I doubt you'd find too many people who would object to this.

Frau, there are plenty of people who donate time, money, and resources to animal charities every day, helping nameless animals who don't make the news.

Glad Campbell is OK.

Frau's point is the cynical one that there are millions of animals who don't make the news, equally deserving of adoption, but we don't hear about them. Many get euthanized.
