QR Codes as Tombstones

Japanese tombstone maker Ishinokoe has begun offering memorials that feature QR codes. Want to know more about the person entombed there? Just whip out your smartphone and scan the code.

That would make finding someone's grave incredibly difficult, if they were all like that. Even if you knew the general area, you'd have to scan a lot to find the one you wanted. They'd have to have a combination of name plus code.

Plus, it's lame.

Interesting, and odd or even nonsensical, to combine something very permanent (an engraved stone marker) with something very transient (a telecommunications/data encoding protocol). I think my advice would be to stick with classic engraved text that doesn't rely on infrastructure that will probably not exist more than a decade, let alone millenia.
