Would You Like to Eat Ice Cream Made from Human Breast Milk?

Of course you would! After all, it makes for good cheese. So you're in luck: there's a shop in London that sells ice cream made from milk donated by local mothers.

The dessert, called Baby Gaga, is churned with donations from 15 women who responded to an advertisement on an online mothers' forum.

One of the women, Victoria Hiley, 35, said if adults realised how tasty breast milk was more new mothers would be encouraged to breastfeed.

Each serving of Baby Gaga at Icecreamists costs £14.

Mrs Hiley's donation was expressed on site and pasteurised before being churned with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest.

Icecreamists founder Matt O'Connor placed an advert appealing for breast milk donations and believes his new recipe will be a success.[...]

"If it's good enough for our children, it's good enough for the rest of us," he said.

I recall reading about an attempt (made by a woman who makes money selling her breast milk) to make paneer (cheese) out of a supply that was soon to spoil if not used. It didn't work, and she learned after talking with a chemist that some milks do not curdle, and therefore cannot be made into cheese. Human and camel milk are among these. Then again, the process for making paneer is different from that of most other cheeses, so maybe human milk can be used.

"I don't see the problem. You had breast milk as a baby, so why not as an adult?"

That is very true, but I still find this rather "squick-y" for some reason. XP

No I would not. The idea of eating someone else's "secretions" is not appetizing.

Thanks for the article though - I prompted me to learn that HIV and Cytomegalovirus can be transmitted via breast milk.

I don't think I want to take a dive into the (somewhat) unknown for £14...

Heck, I don't know if I'd even pay that amount for really, really good ice cream! Unless it'll feed me for the entire day or something.

#5, hmm, "I don't see the problem. You had breast milk as a baby, so why not as an adult?"

Possibly because adults and chilren need different nutrients and because children have no way to say no to human breast milk. In opposite to you, you creepy pervert :)

"No I would not. The idea of eating someone else's "secretions" is not appetizing."

But the "secretions" of some filthy bovine doesn't bother you?

I'd try it. I always try to examine that initial aversion you sometimes get to new things like eating bugs, organs, different parts of an animal. Like why will some people eat a steak but have an aversion to trying the tongue? Or people will eat lobster but get grossed out by frog's legs.

Hell, I'd try it straight from the source if she'd let me.

So. . . people would rather eat something that was made from cow udder secretions. . . because HUMAN-made milk is "creepy?"

Of course, the idea of having hundreds of women lined up in a milk factory sounds like some post-apocalyptic nightmare, but we aren't really talking about that.

Bovine milk contains proteins that humans simply cannot digest, hence the growth of Lactaid. It is best used for baby cows. Human milk, on the other hand, is a fantastic source of nutrition and tastes great to boot.

So, I say bon appétit!

I used my breastmilk for feeding, donations, AND some of the most velvety omelets you can possibly imagine.

Folks, also consider where *else* your mouths have been on/in a human and *then* tell me how sterile breastmilk (which is how it comes out) is gross??????

"I don't see the problem. You had breast milk as a baby, so why not as an adult?"

Because as a baby you KNEW who it was coming from.

That said, I'm going to need to see what these 15 chicks look like before I start in on a "boobie sundae."

Oh sure, you guys are all fine eating this stuff... but just imagine it coming from some middle aged, morbid obese, hairy, stinky, ape woman who just had her 7'th kid on welfare and needs extra cash.

Not so tasty now, is it?

>>Milk donated by local mothers could have been given to infants whose mothers don't produce enough. What a waste.

Maybe we shouldn't be eating ice cream at all, no matter what kind of milk is used, I dunno.

>>So breast milk is sterile.. right. Sure why not, I mean, it's the internet. We can say anything.

Here's another shocker for you: urine is sterile. The things you learn on the internet eh?

>>That said, I'm going to need to see what these 15 chicks look like before I start in on a "boobie sundae."

A picture of the boobs in question on the menu would be nice.

>>Biohazard. And no, I don't drink cow's milk, either.

hmm, I know urine is sterile. Mothermilk is not. It contains bifidus bacteria and lacto germs. And you thought of yourself as a walking encyclopedia, huh?

@Max Power:

No. And I didn't say that.

In any case: if it's safe enough for newborns; I'll take my chances.

And according to the article the milk has been pasteurized.

I always thought that this and breast milk butter would be perfect to market to Vegans as no animals were harmed in there making. I assume the Women were paid for the milk. But I'm sure that Vegans would just complain that the mothers weren't vegans themselves.

i dont see the difference! we drink milk from all kinds of animals, goats,cows,etc..and the milk is checked and sterile, look how many cows had mad cow disease before it was checked? did it stop many from drinking milk? no! but i would donate mine to preemies or critically ill infants first..but alot of new, single moms with xtra milk would have a new way to provide for their family too by selling extra breastmilk..not any different then donating blood or semen..they are all body secretions and this one is very healthy for u
