the chemicals used in such colors are not made strong in order to keep your skin safe. This is the reason it doesn't last longer.
You never see bluing for sale anymore because bleach is made better, and many linens aren't even made of linen.
@Miss C: My local store still carries bluing and I use it on things that are not safe to be bleached. Works wonders.
