Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!

Have any of you been to the town of Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha! lately? It's in Quebec. Link

I live sort of near there (I live in Montreal), but I've never been to this place.

Something funny about this town is that they have a lake, and a few years ago they put a bunch of cheese at the bottom of the lake. The plan was to leave the cheese in the lake for a while, thinking that it would improve the cheese. However, when the time came to get the cheese out of the lake, they couldn't find the cheese!

Hmm, somehow it never occurred to me that lake0dwelling creatures might've gotten to the cheese.

Th cheese story was amusing enough in itself, but was made funnier by the fact that it happened in a town with a funny name.

I've been there and never saw one Ha! let alone two. Also went through Trois Pistoles on the way to the east coast. Stopped at Cap Bon Ami where they claim the Vikings landed for the first time on the continent.

Take it from a Canadian: Canada is a festival of great place names. This topic obviously can't be broached without mentioning the infamous Dildo, Newfoundland, but my favourite is still the standout Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Alberta.

Alberta has some funny town names.

There is Vulcan - which has a huge assortment of Star Trek themed sights - Sexsmith - which was once the "grain capital of the British Empire" - and Viking, which has a Troll Garden that celebrates Scandinavian history.

I used to live in the maritimes (now living in Montreal) and I have passed through Saint-Louis-du-Ha!-Ha!. I even have a few pictures of the sign.

I have always thought the "baby" ! were the funniest part of the name.

I guess they are trying to down play the humorous nature of their name.

I've been there! It was on a bike trip with my family a few years ago, when we saw signs pointing to the town we thought it was a joke at first. All the locals pronounce it with a totally straight face!
