The Mayberry/Star Trek Connection - Neatorama

Star Trek and The Andy Griffith Show were sometimes filmed on the same lot. Specifically, the episodes "Miri" and "City on the Edge of Forever" used the lot that was also used to represent the town of Mayberry. You can view more pictures of this connection at the link.

Ok, I understand that they only showed the 1st floor in The Andy Griffith Show to depict a smaller town but that would say that the town wasn't intentionally built for the show, but instead re-used for TAGS.

What was the set originally made for then?
