This man won the Marvel comics cosplay competition at the New York Comic Con. Speaking of which, here's an interesting line: "Steampunk is when goths discover brown." (via) Do you agree?
I kind of agree everyone I know who used to be goth is not totally into steam punk. Though they discover gears and history as well, when they find brown.
Seriously? Steampunk where the only source of power is also the only modern part? If ever we needed proof that whatever was interesting about steampunk has died, this is it.
"Hey, look at my steampunk steam train!" "But that's an electric train...all you did was paint the TGV to make it look like it's brass." "I know. Awesome right! Look at this unnecessary leather bracket I put between the cars." "You totally don't understand steampunk do you?"
The man behind the mask is Matt Silva. The suit actually originates from a short film I did, Heartless The Story of the Tin Man, with a Company called Whitestone Motion Pictures. The Original format was again that of the Tin Man, The Tin Man Suit was Designed by Bill Johnson, then sculpted by he and Matt Silva. After all that the two of them and myself and Johnathon Thorton came in to help mold, cast, and paint the Tin Man. The total time for the build of the Tin Man suit was about 2 weeks with mainly Bill, Johnathon, and Matt working around the clock. The Iron Man you see here is Matt’s modified remake of that same suit. The paint scheme and paint job where all of Matt’s design, and the lower torso and helmet are both heavily remastered versions built off the original. Thanks so much for your support and compliments, The suit still has much room for improvement so keep your eyes peeled for future attempts!
Lol davelog. I'm not goth and never have been, but I really enjoy the look of steampunk. Very cool Ironman. I agree w/ nangus about the steam engine in place of the reactor.
Re: the rage over the lack of steam in some "steampunk" -- what else would you call it? Tesla-punk? Static-punk? Waterwheel-punk? There were other means of powering devices in the Victorian age, yeah? Steam is cool, but not the only thing.
Looks pretty sweet even so.
When it'd done badly, steampunk is like the TGI Friday's of Sci Fi: the same old stuff, with a veneer of antiquity tacked onto it.

NOT STEAMPUNK.
Alright, that ends my steampunk rage. I'll admit, when I was a tween, I was totally a goth. Now I'm into steampunk. I suppose it's kind of true.
