Leaf Carving

Leaf carving involves cutting away at a leaf until it reveals an image. This is a craft practiced by Nature's Art, a studio in Hengshui, China. At the link, you can view several other examples as well as instructions on how to make your own.

The design isn't actually cut all the way through the leaf as a laser would; the leaf material is scraped away so it's just much thinner in the areas where the leaf is white (note that it's translucent in step 6 of the how-to PDF at the link). The picture above doesn't quite show this - I thought it was just white paint around a stencil.

The leaf is not cut out... If you can't notice that the leaf is actually painted with white paint. You put a stencil on the leaf, and paint. Look close next time.

How to build a car from scrap metal.

1) Find scrap metal.

2) Clean scrap metal.

3) Dry scrap metal.

4) Sort scrap metal.

5) Build car.

6) Profit!

It's easy.

Seriously: it looks nice and all, but it's not carving; it's painting.

It looks like paint, due to the speckled fading out. But when I looked it up I found very similar images with shadows that probably prove that it is actually carved.
In which case, it is really cool.
