So what anti-virus software you use/recommend instead?

It's good to see Dolph getting so much work as of late.

Good for Norton, then! Their product was awesome, then it became bloatware. If they've redeemed themselves, then that's good to hear. I'll give it a try on a new machine I'll be getting soon. Intro edited to reflect this.

@Alexis - I used to use free antivirus softwares like AVG. I've used Kaspersky for the last year or so. There are many choices for antivirus - perhaps it's time to retry Norton, if Cluck is right.

Norton and McAfee have always been better at advertising their product then having a good quality one. But, from what I've heard, in the last 5 years Norton has been able to boost their level of quality. There is a new free anti-virus available called ClamWin, which has had good reviews, but I have yet to try it out myself.

2009 and newer slimmer and better. 2009 was the revamp from scratch. You can try the free trialware yourself to see it.

I've got free Norton from Comcast on the netbook, but Kaspersky on my desktop. Norton has been faster and better the last couple of years, but I'm still getting better results from Kaspersky. It's faster, fewer interface issues, updates better, and does not slow down the system nearly as much as Norton when updating and scanning.

FYI, getting Norton off your computer is a complete pain. It likes to rewrite parts of the registry, which you have to track down and remove before you can install different security software.
