Sacrebleu! France has just passed a rule stating that anyone insulting the French national flag could be fined €1,500:
France has introduced a rule to protect its national flag from insult after a photo of a man wiping his bottom with the tricolour caused outrage.
Under the rule, anyone caught trying to "destroy, damage or use the flag in a degrading manner" could face a fine of 1,500 euros (£1,250; $1,900).
The offending picture won a prize in a photo contest in the southern city of Nice in March. It was later published in a free national newspaper.
Still proud to be an (Ignorant) American. Even if you want to wipe your butt with our flag it's protected. Incredibly disrespectful, but then again, I prefer to regulate MY OWN behavior.
Our dear government is rotting. They are making this stunt to try to hide their complete inefficiency to take care to anything but the simplest problems. The current big stuff at the moment is a very dirty story involving top government members, illegal majority party funding and an old rich woman owning one of the biggest cosmetic company in the world. Some foreign journals compare this to the Watergate.
As usual, this stuff is made to keep the votes of the far-right.
"in any public place or place open to the public"
I would hope it was illegal to wipe your ass in public with anything.
The French hear their national anthem booed at sporting events by French citizens of Algerian descent who, although born in France, prefer to root for the Algerian team, for example.
Can you imagine an Italian-American insulting the American anthem at such an event just because he wants to show he's rooting for Italy? No way.
It has been happening that the French flag is removed from city halls and other such administrative buildings during the nite and replaced with the Algerian flag. Some people are fed up with the lack of respect. So, when this picture hit the news, there was a bit of a scandal.
What bothered me most was not that someone staged the photo but that someone felt it was artistically worthy enough to be part of an exhibit. It isn't. It's not a good photo and is very childish in its intent. But the people at the FNAC (the store that regularly has photo exhibits) just had to choose it. THAT is where the problem really lies.
I can not only imagine it, I wouldn't really care. I'd just think the guy was a douche and move on with my life, because he's entitled to express his opinion just like the rest of us.
Captain America and Wonder Woman have really led you all astray. So I'm sure the French can ignore their flag laws just as surely as the Americans do.
Best comment by a long distance. :-))))))))))
Oh, btw, I'm french. ;-)
First of all... you freaks... the law states:
"in any public place or place open to the public"
would that include the internet?
