Disney Making New Haunted Mansion Movie - Neatorama

Literally one day after I wrote a post about the Haunted Mansion, Disney announced at Comic Con that they are going to make a second movie based on the famed ride. I know I'm not the only one who remembers that they already tried this and didn't do very well with it. Maybe Guillermo Del Toro will do better though.

Yeah, that first mansion movie was a real disappointment. I have a feeling that this movie will be a great improvement. It sounds like they're going to be playing more true to the theme and imagery from the ride... or at least that's what I'm hoping. As long as eddie murphy isn't in it I'm a satisfied kitten.

... i hope this one does really well. not because i really want to see another haunted mansion movie, but that it will put del toro in a good position to get his mountains of madness movie made...

According to io9.com & crunchgear.com, it sounds like Del Toro is reimagining the ride/attraction, not doing a movie remake.

Were you just suggesting that Del Toro do the movie or is he really going to do it? You were a little unclear in your wording. By the way, I love the Haunted Mansion, and I loved your previous article on it. And the Haunted Mansion movie disappointed me because it really, really sucked. But if Del Toro is doing the new one, I've got hope for it. If anyone can pull it off, it's him.

I was soooo disappointed with the first one. I wanted it to be like the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. It was a dumb story and made no sense except for the singing busts. I would love a movie true to the ride! I hope that is what it is or don't waste your time.

Please Disney. STOP already. You're just rehashing old ideas and trying to appeal to an older generation that really doesn't care (though I still crack up over the last little mermaid movie; the queen was run over by a pirate ship!!! LOL). Pixar, Dreamworks, Nickelodeon and (sometimes) Cartoon Network are whipping your butts in just about everything.

I wonder how many Space Mountain scripts they've had to look at and subsequently throw away. Calling Mr. Bay...
