Floppy Disk Drive Stands Up to Avoid Spills



London-based designer Chambers Judd modified the floppy disk drive pictured above. Normally it lies flat, but the moment that it comes in contact with a liquid, little legs raise it up out of danger. Video at the link.

Seems like a lot of work for about 1.5 MB of storage capacity per diskette...

How about designing a spill-resistant keyboard? I've probably destroyed a dozen of them with my morning coffee.

This would be great to help prevent me from constantly spilling beer on my router, but probably not provide much due to me kicking it over in a drunken nerdrage.

It reminds me of a white grand piano.

Seeing how "Attenborough Design Group, a fictional organisation..." this could very well apply to an alternate reality with a different tech level.
