What Is It? Game 143

Hooray! It's time to play our weekly guessing game in collaboration with the What Is It? Blog. Can you guess what the strange (and menacing) tool above is used for?

Place your guess in the comment section. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many as you'd like. Two prizes: the first correct guess and the funniest albeit wrong one win T-shirts from the NeatoShop. Please do not post any URL or web link. You have until the answer is revealed sometime tomorrow.

IMPORTANT: Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't, then you forfeit the prize, mmkay? So head on over to the NeatoShop (may I suggest the Funny T-shirt and the Science T-shirt sections?)

For more clues, check out the What Is It? Blog. Good luck!

Update 7/6/10 - the answer is: A cork remover, patent number 1,213,452, which states:

By then imparting a gradual rotating movement of the bottle with respect to the extractor, or of the extractor with respect to the bottle, the stopper will be moved in a circular direction in the bottle neck and such rotation will readily free the stopper as the tendency of the latter is to move outwardly during such rotation.

Jonnathan got it right, but didn't choose a prize. Congratulations to Meg (the FLASH!) who needle felting during the Inquisition.

it looks like a thumb tack that is extra sturdy by using nails, and it has a hook on the end so i'm gonna guess it is a reinforced thumb tack that can hold things that hang on to the end, like pictures or towels, or coats or something....final answer.

A removable cleat used in temporarily rigging lines. The pins hold it down, but are removable. The tee shape and hook are used for tying and/or directing ropes. Most likely used on temporary loads such as stacks of lumber.

From the other view on What Is It? you can clearly see that this DIY hipster clothes mod from American Apparel was marketed as Panic at the Disco fan swag. It's the perfect tool for creating that coveted ex-monied cad with an ironic fashion sense look.

Thesaurus, XL for chubbos (I'm gonna mod it with my PATD tool!)

Looks like some tool used in manufacturing. Those oversized thumbtacks are removable. Also this tool appears to live on some sort of track so it can move. My guess is it removes the eyes of rabbits after Draize testing.

It is the "Triple Threat(tm)" three-ball golf tee with optional hand grip so you can point the pointy parts in someone's face to give them a really good close up idea of how pointy pointy those sharp pointy parts are.

A corn on the cob eating thingie. And if that's wrong than it's an impacted feces remover, which is also wrong but necessary.

A 19th century tattoo needle gun. Back when tattoo artists were actually required to have a shaky hand.

It completed the first tramp stamp in a San Francisco bordello in 1849.

It looks to be something to stab someone in the head to give them a wicked looking scar to brag about.

It's for gathering tree sap for maple syrup. The bucket hangs on the small hook, and when the small nails are removed sap slowly flows from the holes into the hanging bucket. It takes a long time though, a couple of days for enough to fill the bucket!
