Shelf Made from Recycled National Geographic Magazines

Seattle-based designer Sean Miller turned a stack of old issues of National Geographic into a functional bookshelf.

First Sean coated the magazines with a a water/starch mixture and then he placed them under pressure for about a week to harden. Next he took a band saw to the consolidated stack and carved out space for a shelf. Holes were also cut into the bookshelf’s sides, allowing it to slide onto three rods to be hung. About 80 mags were used.

Ok, recycling is way cool but also way cool is reading old NatGeo's.
ps: what is not cool is those stupid voice overs they do sometimes on their vehdayos.

I can tell you from experience that it is nearly impossible to find a home for a collection of old National Geographics. My grandfather had nearly every issue going back to the late 1920s when he died. We tried to donate them to any library in the area that would take them to no avail. Now that you can get all of NatGeo on a couple DVDs having hundreds of pounds of paper taking up shelf space isn't very attractive.
