Boxer Survives Getting A Nail In the Head

Max's owner was working on the deck in their back yard and accidentally shot the pup in the head when he started acting too playful and got too close to the action. Fortunately, he was rushed off to the vet, who was able to remove the nail and keep the dog alive. Be sure to click the link to see the amazing photos of the X-rays and removed nail.

I'm surprised so many people don't believe this was an accident. The guy rushed the dog to the vet right away. Have you ever taken a dog to a vet for an emergency like this? Sort of expensive. He'd have to be an idiot to do it on purpose and then need to pay to have the dog fixed.

Oh, I wouldn't say he did it on purpose. Just that he was irresponsible and should be charged with animal cruelty, whether he intended to be cruel or not.

I'm going to be a grammar nerd here. That first sentence reads oddly to me. Doesn't the 'started' and 'got' use the same subject as the 'shot'? I'm not sure I'm explaining that well, so here:

"Max’s owner was working on the deck in their back yard and accidentally shot the pup in the head when he started acting too playful and got too close to the action. "

I'm not sure I'm correct, and I know it's silly, but doesn't that imply that that Max's owner was the one being playful and getting to close?
