Grasshopper Blog recently conducted a survey of 200 entrepreneurs to gauge the effect of the economic recession on their businesses and their expectations for the current year. I was most interested to find that an overwhelming majority of them are optimistic about 2010 (with over 50% of them being very optimistic).

What the hell kind of answers are those? There's only 1 answer that counts as "no" as opposed to the 5 that count as "yes."

I suspect what you're seeing in the data is a profile of the personality spectrum of entrepreneurs. That kind of ?blind optimism is what allows (some of) these people to be successful in their business ventures, plunging in to an uncertain economy where angels would fear to tread.

Why shouldn't be optimistic? Compared to the horrors that we will experience in the decades to come, 2010 will be a Golden Year.

#2- spot on. I worked for an "entrepreneur" who, despite being $250 million in the hole and mere days away from bankruptcy, was still skipping along telling anyone who'd listen that everything was going to turn out GREAT tomorrow!

Anyone who isn't optimistic needs to get the heck out of the way and hunker in their basements because we are in the process of getting EVERYTHING back on track.

Optimism is really good for work ethic, but being realistic is better when watching your pocketbook. Be optimistic and be prepared to work overtime. Hiring a new person on you optimism about the economy would be really dumb. or a laugh go to the website to see how much money these entrepreneurs are making before you think you got a hot tip on what horse to bet on.

Not very optimistic for the way things are going. I am not looking forward to 2011 taxes or the idea of a VAT tax floating around. But I guess they have to find a way to pay for everything they are trying to control.

All I see in the future is more of my money going to the government or some idiot that does not want to get a job and actually earn their money.
