The Royal National Library of The Netherlands has a collection of over a thousand hand-bound books dating back as far as 800 years. I know they're mass produced, but I used to like the Folio Society bindings when I was little - I guess my brother and sister inherited them.

How is it not still enchanting and beautiful?
People are remarking on the similarity, and hell this could be where Rowling got the idea in the first place! In fact it makes it even more enchanting, because obviously if it was true then she thought the image and idea were striking.
