Water Consumption and Olympic Hockey

This chart from the utility company EPCOR contrasts water consumption in Edmonton, Alberta on two different days. February 27th is charted to show a normal day. February 28th was the day Canada won the Olympic gold medal hockey game. As you can see, a huge percentage of their customers waited for breaks in the game to "go". Link -via reddit

Here in the UK the electricity generators keep an eye on TV schedules for things like this. Firstly there is the increased power consumption from people switching on kettles during the breaks in popular programs, but secondly the spikes in water consumption can cause problems for some hydroelectric facilities. Strange how these things connect.
